I search for old jacquards with traditional patterns, they are tablecloths, quilts, or upholstery fabrics, I chose them for they complexity. Their patterns are often folk simplified floral or animal motives, that are repetitive and follow formally the grid of the warp and weft.
I treat the fabric as material, starting point for a metamorphosis. I pull the threads one by one, unweave the fabric in a spidery effort similar in time consumption to the act of weaving. I follow the structure until it becomes distorted, decomposed, and ready to form new entanglements. I keep all the threads, only their functions become altered and the form grows out of the rule of zero and one and two dimensionality.
